Wave World Concert at Maasrock cancelled. (24-07-00)
We are sorry to inform you that the Wave World gig at Maasrock (B),
september 2nd, has been cancelled due to capacity problems of the concert
hall. The organisation of Maasrock had originally planned the festival in a
concert hall with room for 900 visitors, a large stage and a large wall for
projection of the Wave World movie. So far so good. But... the management of
this building, has sadly said 'NO' at the very last instant. This meant the
organisation of Maasrock had to find another place for the festival. Because
there was very little time left, there was not much choice, and although
they were lucky enough to find a place at all, the new venue has only room
for 400 persons, it has a very small stage and there is no room at all for a
video screen.
We are very sorry if this spoils your day in Maaseik, but this is one of
those typical examples of 'force majeure'. Anyway, now we're focussing on
the London gig of October 14th, and we will even have some time for writing
new material for the forthcoming 'Dimensions' album. Meanwhile there's also
rumours of other concerts in a very different part of the world. We'll keep
you informed...

STRUCTURES (July 2000)
After the release of their debut album 'Species', Gert van Santen and Harry
Kessels - the musicians behind the Wave World project - have not exactly
been resting on their laurels. A couple of months ago, their second album
'Structures' has hit the shelves. With computer designer Rolf van Slooten
now being their third member, it's not surprising at all that 'Structures'
looks absolutely stunning! The booklet and the back are illustrated with
lots of images of their concert-movie and live gigs. Those of you who have
visited the Alfa Centauri Festival, will surely recognize the cosmic dust
sprinkling, slow motion 'helicopters' from the movie that also embellish the
cover of the album and the picture CD.
If you put the disc in your CD-player, you are treated to more than 70
minutes of wonderful electronic music. Music that is characterized by very
strong rhythmic parts, full of exceptional effects and clever, subtly hidden
treasures. This means that you can listen to the album over and over again
and still discover new things the next time you play it! For example a very
low bass that starts so very soft that at first you think there's a
thunderstorm somewhere far away. Only after some time the sound becomes so
evident that you can't miss it anymore - and then it's suddenly gone. The
relatively high tempo of the music results in a lively atmosphere, and,
combined with the pristine production and recording quality, I can
absolutely recommend this Dutch EM product! And when you know that there's a
QuickTime trailer of their concert movie on the CD, there's no reason at all
not to buy it! Hats off!
Frits Couwenberg for KLEM
It has been a while(12-06-2000)
It has been a while, but after the concert at the Alpha Centauri Festival on
March 25, the Wave World members have taken the opportunity to sneek back to
their regular day job to earn some money (we've got to eat too!) and recover
a bit - which we really needed! After working too many nights till 5 o'clock
in the morning, and the bustle of the concert, we were really exhausted. But
now we're slowly showing a relapse into our Wave World addiction again...
Let's start right away with some very exciting news! Although this is not
100 % official yet, it is almost sure that Wave World will play a concert in
London (GB) next autumn. The concert will take place in a very special
venue, so pay attention to the official Wave World website for more news on
this. We expect to receive the contracts in a week or so, and as soon as
it's all settled, we will reveal the exact date and place on our website. Of
course we will send all subscribers to our newsletter an e-mail with
detailed information.
For the concert in Belgium, Maaseik, September 2nd, and the gig in England,
we expect to have lots of new and even more exciting computer graphics. Rolf
is already working very hard on new ideas, and the stuff he comes up with
looks even more breathtaking than the things we had until now. Expect to
find some samples of the new images to appear on the Wave World website very
soon.
By the way, images. Rolf is working on a short movie of the concert at the
Alpha Centauri Festival which will be downloadable from our website soon, so
keep an eye out for this thingy...
Ah, we almost forgot about the music. Gert and Harry are already working on
new material for the third Wave World album that should come out in 2001.
The title of the album is going to be 'DIMENSIONS'. As soon as there are
finished tracks, we will put some MP3 files on the website.
And here's a special message for people living in The Netherlands in the
Arnhem / Wageningen area. There will be a live radio interview with Wave
World on radio DALUX, 107.7 FM, Wednesday, June 14th, 21:00 - 23:00. Of
course the listeners can expect some music as well!
First pictures of the live concert available(19-4-00)
Look for the first pictures on the concertinfo/concertpictures page.
Downloadable Movie of the live concert (11-4-00)
We are now working on a short impression of the live concert in quicktime
format. You can download this movie from the website next week.
Virtual Factory also started working on new waveworld images. After a short
break they started to create even more spectaculair Waveworld scenes to
complete the still not finished Waveworld concert movie.
The new images will be kept secret until the next concert (with a few exceptions
so stay tuned!).
But we will reveal a lot of new images of waveworld from the last concert
on the website soon.(watch the movie-snapshot page)
Slide Show of Alfa Centauri concert available soon (27-3-00)
Onno Groot has made a lot of wonderful pictures of the Wave World concert at
the Alfa Centauri festival. We will put together a special slide show, which
will be available for download later this week or next week. So be sure to
check this site!
Wave World at the Alfa Centauri 2000 Festival (26-03-2000)
As many of our regular visitors know, on Saturday, March 25, Wave World was
the main act at the Alfa Centauri 2000 Festival in Huizen, the Netherlands.
Alfa Centauri has become the biggest EM event in the world (!), so you can
understand that we were very proud to be invited as the main act at this
important festival.
And what a great party it was! After wonderful performances by Pyramid
Peak, Radio Massacre International, Robert Rich and Patrick Kosmos, it was
our turn...
Rolf van Slooten and Vincent van Soest had been sweating until almost seven
o'clock in the evening to copy the new version of the Concert Movie from the
Virtual Factory computers to a Betacam tape. After arriving at the theater,
they had to continue working their pants off in order to install the large
video beamer in time. In the meantime, Harry and Gert were undergoing a
drastic metamorphosis into fearsome creatures with the help of grease-paint
and the newly acquired Wave World garb. These impressive robes, normally
worn only by the High Priests of the Wave World planet, were especially
designed and tailor-made by Helmy Nagelhout and Nathalie Scholten.
And everything went great! The new High Priest act, and the fact that lots
of new, dramatic animations could be shown to the audience, definitely
contributed to the success. Moreover, we are now able to show almost 65
minutes of moving images! All in all, saturday's show was much more
sophisticated and elaborate than the ones in October and December 1999 - at
least that's what the audience told us afterwards! To be honest, all these
compliments really made us feel a bit shy. On the other hand, as you can
understand, we are feeling proud as well, and we can assure you that we are
working hard to make future concerts even more impressive!
Here are some of the more remarkable comments we got - after the concert -
from people in the concert hall, other artists and visitors of the Quantum
stand:
"This is a superb, world class act!" - Patrick Kosmos
"You guys are great!" - Robert Rich
"Jeez, I honestly got goose bumps!" - Eric Snelders
"Definitely an act with world class" - Roland Clercx, freelance electronic
music critic
"Spitze! Wir sind grosse Fans von Eurer Musik." - Steffen Sachers
"Better than Pink Floyd!" - you know who you are, and you said we could
quote you!
"When's the movie coming out on video?" - many people
"It's really something different." (like in: "I'd rather listen to
Pavarotti") - Vera at the box office
"Totally unworldly stuff, man!" - Keimpe Dijk
"Awesome! Bizar!" - Cor Haitsma
"Frightening accuracy." - Tim van Veen
"The best concert I've ever seen!" - many people
Finally, the entire Wave World team would like to take this opportunity to
thank all of you for coming to the show, buying so many of our albums and
T-Shirts, and making this the best day of our musical careers to date! We
hope to welcome you again at future events.
Editing Concert Movie started (15-03-00)
Today the Wave World team has begun the process of editing the material for
the new Wave World Concert Movie, which will feature its premiere at Alpha
Centauri on March 25. As some of our loyal fans may already know, the movie
was not completely finished at our last concert, and although lots and lots
of new, exciting scenes are added, the 'moving part' of the movie still
isn't complete.
This has two main reasons.
1. Designing, drawing and computing new images is an extremely time
consuming business, especially when you depend on a day-time job to earn
your living, so all you can do is work on the project during evening hours
or in weekends. When you know that since the beginning of the multi media
part of Wave World (June 1999) the computers of Virtual Factory have been
working for almost 5,000 hours, just to render the images we have until now,
you may start to realize the enormous extent of our quest.
On the bright side: at Alpha Centauri we will be able to show you moving
images at least 55 % of the time (was 28 %) and lots and lots of new, very
dramatic stills.
2. After the concert of December 3d, the Wave World team has obtained a new
software version of the 3D graphics program. This software now enables us to
work much more detailed, so we can come up with even better images. The
drawback, however, is, that drawing and rendering the images takes up even
more time. In an upcoming video documentary of our live concerts (probably
available from September 2000 at Quantum Records) we will show you a.o. how
images are designed and drawn on the computer with MAYA. Keep a close eye on
the news page for more information on this video documentary. Just for the
record, and to show you that what we're doing is really cutting edge: the
software we use is also used by George Lucas' Star Wars team.
As we have said from the beginning; Wave World is 'Work in Progress'.
Because we are completely addicted to it, and because we really believe that
the intermediate stages and the way we work can be interesting, or at least
entertaining, to many people, we want to give our fans the opportunity to
experience the project during all of its development. So enjoy your trip
into time and space...
Section of 'Structures' on the Audio Page (14-3-00)
As promised earlier, we have now put a section of our newest song,
'Structures II', on the Audio page.
'Structures II' is Wave World's most
recent song, and includes a.o. an atmospheric electric guitar part. The
complete track can of course be found on the new album.
Artwork new album finished (29-2-00)
Yes, you've guessed right! The picture on the Home Page is the cover of the
new Wave World album! Last night, after a long, but fruitful session, we
finally left the Virtual Factory building at 2:00 with a copy of the artwork
for 'Structures'. The CDR was brought immediately to the printing plant by
Harry, who never seems to get tired. As you can see, we kept the images in
the style of 'Species'. We decided it would be important for the albums to
have the same kind of atmosphere, since everything on 'Structures', as well
as on 'Species', revolves around the mysterious events that are slowly
taking shape on this far away planet...
On the back of the cover you will find a large picture of one of the archaic
technological structures found on Wave World, including six graphics from
the concert movie and a short explanation about the project. The back of the
album features 4 pictures of the live concert in Huizen on October 30, 1999.
It really does look very cool!
If nothing goes wrong at the printing plant - which we sincerely hope -
'Structures' will be released at the Alpha Centauri festival in Huizen,
March 25, where Wave World will play as the main act. See you there!
New album finished (21-02-2000)
The new Wave World album, 'Structures', is finished! 'Structures Part II',
the last song for the new CD, was mixed today. Next week the album will
be mastered. 'Structures will be released on the Alpha Centauri Festival on March 25,
where Wave World will perform as the main act.
The tracklist of the new album will be:
1. Ouverture
2. The Mountain
3. Structures Part I
4. Structures Part II
5. Dimensions
Be sure to take a regular peak at the Audio page
on this website, because
very soon we will put a preview of the newest song, 'Structures Part II', on
this site, downloadable as MP3!
Schallwende Elections 1999 (5-2-2000)
In the Schallwende Elections of 1999, Waveworld was elected 4th in the
category Best Newcomers. Schallwende - the successor to the famous German
'Schwingungen Club' - organizes a contest once a year where the best
electronic Albums, Musicians, Newcomers, Covers and Festivals are chosen by
the public.

We want to thank everybody who voted for Waveworld!
New Trailer Out Now! (2-2-00)
If you click 'Wave World Trailers' on the home page, you will find a new
version of our trailer. There are some big improvements made:
1. The overall image and sound quality is drastically improved.
2. Some new spectacular images are added.
3. A voice over is added (thanks, Pip!).
And don't forget this: if your connection is too slow to download the
trailer, or if just don't want to be on line too long, you can order a CDR
for NLG 15 from Virtual Factory - including some nice extra's for free. For
details, see the Trailer Page.
Live Audio availible now! (30-1-00)
Finally we've found the time to set up the Audio Page! If you click on the
'loudspeaker' symbol on the home page, you are guided to a page that offers
8 audio files for downloading. All of these files are taken from the live
concerts in Huizen and the Film Academy. If you've never heard Wave World
before, this is your chance! All files are around 150 K, so that's no
problem for most people. If you've got a faster connection, you might want
to download 'El Nino', which is 1,78 Mb and around 5 minutes long.
Second Wave World album almost finished. (28-1-00)
With a new song in the making, Wave World's second album - working title
'Structures' - is almost ready for mastering. Because the quality of the
live recordings on CD made by Gert and Harry in Huizen and at the Film
Academy is very good, there might be some unedited material of those events
on the album as well - which could be interesting if you've been there in
person. For now, Gert and Harry plan to include the next songs on
Structures:
1. The Mountain
2. Structures part I
3. Dimensions
4. Structures part II
Wave World hope to release their new album on March 25th, at the Alpha
Centauri Festival.
Story of Wave World novel finished! (23-1-00)
After a very intensive brain storm session, Gert,Harry and Rolf have finished the
story of Wave World! The working title for the novel will be:
WAVE WORLD - THE LAST FUNDAMENTAL.
Not surprisingly, THE LAST FUNDAMENTAL will be a science fiction story,
and for now it will be kept very, very secret. Nevertheless, we can already
share the text of the new trailer with you, which is a reflection of the
contents of the story.
On a paradisaical world,
an invisible enemy threatens to destroy all life.
A young visionary, and a saviour from another world,
join forces to prevent this.
But an ancient mystery confronts them with the ultimate threat...
Wave World.
The Last Fundamental.
Special Wave World video in the making! (22-1-00)
Rolf, Vincent, Pim and the computers of the Virtual Factory team are
momentarily working their pants off to get as much spectacular material in
the next version of the Concert Movie. Although this sometimes means that 3
persons and 4 machines at once are labouring hard to create new images, it
is obvious now that it will be impossible to finish the Concert Movie before
the Alpha Centauri Festival. To salve the wound, and to accommodate the
requests of a growing number of fans, Virtual Factory is planning to put
together a one-time video with footage of the live concert in Huizen, as
well as some of the most impressive scenes from the Wave World universe.
More information will follow.
Wave World working on new song material. (16-1-00)
Since the beginning of January, Harry en Gert are working on a new song that
will be over 20 minutes long. The working title of this piece is 'Structures
part II'. It will feature not only some typical Wave World atmospheres, a
rather up tempo rhytmic part with meandering sequences and an adventurous
ending, but as well some completely new sounds that Harry and Gert have
collected and programmed. As for the feeling, the song will fit in with the
other new songs (The Mountain, Structures part I and Dimensions) that were
played at the festival in Huizen and 3-D Day, last year.
Wave World Main Act on both Alpha Centauri and Maasrock! (1-1-00)
The organizers of both Alpha Centauri and Maasrock have decided to make Wave
World the main act of their festival! Although this came to us as sort of a
surprise - we're not THAT famous, after all! - we think this is a great
opportunity, and we are motivated even more in making our project the
