Production of the new Wave World movie TeaserTrailer (August 2001)

Virtual Factory started the production of a new Waveworld TeaserTrailer. While the first trailer was mainly focused on the Waveworld concertmovie, this new trailer will focus on the actual Waveworld movie. It will contain more action shots, caracters and more dramatical scenes.

We are trying to reach a new level of quality for Wave World and the new trailer will contain impressive material. But working on this high level means investing lots of time for our small team. On this page we will inform you about the production proces of this trailer and about the progress we make.

The production: The script

Under the influence of tea and buttercake, Gert van Santen and Rolf van Slooten are brainstorming once a week a few hours about the storyline of the trailer. Which elements of the Waveworld story are we going to highlight in the trailer? How many action shots and how many dramatic dialogs will be in the trailer? This results in scripts that goes to the storyboarding department.

The production: Storyboarding a Teaser Trailer

Jurjen Kraan of Virtual Factory is now the official storyboard artist of Wave World. From the script made by Rolf, Harry and Gert, and the artist impressions from Rolf, he creates the storyboards (fig.1) for the Wave World movie and trailer. We are very impressed by his patience, while we frequently change parts of the story.

The Production: Creating 3D Wireframes

Then a complex and time consuming task is waiting: creating the wireframes of the 3D computergenerated scenes.(fig.2) For this we use a great softwarepackage called 'MAYA' running on Silicon Graphics and Intergraph graphic workstations.

The Production: Adding light and textures

After the wireframes are completed, Textures and colors are placed on the wireframes and bring Wave World to live.(fig.3)
